For five years now I’ve used Nitro rods exclusively and so I can comment on and fully endorse them with some authority. You see, I keep a detailed fishing diary and I’ve done all the sums from the day I received my very first Nitro rods the Ultrabream Finesse and Powerbream Finesse models and now with my three Vapor rods as well. During that time those Nitro’s have enabled me to catch and release 10 Victorian bass, 1165 flathead, 3544 estuary perch, and a whopping 4219 bream. Nitro rods have been involved with all my PB’s that now stand at a 49cm bass, 91cm dusky flathead, 55cm estuary perch, a 70cm tailor, a 53cm silver trevally, a 43cm yellow fin bream and my latest PB a 48.5cm black bream.
I have not kept count of gummy sharks, snook, tailor salmon or snapper I’ve caught over that same time. I fish about 120 days a year and I’ll often spend ten or even twelve hours a day on the water. Those stats alone mean that for any other “normal” angler my rods are probably closer to ten years old considering my time and effort out fishing. I am extremely hard on all my gear and I’m a rough and tumble, knock-about kayak fisher guilty of hardly ever washing rod or reel. I am therefore very proud of my Nitro rods with their amazing durability and during all those years I have yet to experience a broken rod or even a single Fuji guide failure. Recently I have also used my Vapor rods for chasing salmon, snapper, snook and yank flathead at near by Port Albert.
I also employ three types of surf rods including the Surf Assassin, the Messiah Spin and my newest Nitro addition the Frankenstein. All of these rods have accounted for gummies, elephant fish, salmon and back breaking skates and rays. I use the 7’6” Distance Spin Nitro for surf and rock lure fishing and it has muscled in big salmon and tailor along remote Gippsland beaches. I now have a stable of 14 Nitro rods and in my opinion all of them seem unbreakable! Finally, I believe that Nitro rods have gained much respect amongst anglers for three main reasons; their superior easy-cast flexible tips, their strong backbones for much needed “horsepower” on big fish and their longevity.
